Introduction

Welcome to the BuddyBot Starter Guide! BuddyBot is designed to enhance user interaction by providing automated chat support and other features. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up and using BuddyBot effectively.

What to Expect

  • Easy Setup: Learn how to configure BuddyBot with minimal effort.
  • Customization Options: Discover how to tailor BuddyBot to fit your needs.
  • Integration Tips: Get insights into integrating BuddyBot with your existing systems.

Let’s Get Started

Below are the steps to set up and use BuddyBot. Each step includes a brief overview and a link to a detailed explanation for further guidance.

Step 1: Configure BuddyBot Settings

After activating BuddyBot, navigate to the settings from the BuddyBot menu. In the settings, you will need to configure the following:

  • API Key: The API Key is essential for enabling BuddyBot to access OpenAI ChatGPT services. It acts as a secure bridge between BuddyBot and OpenAI, allowing BuddyBot to process user queries and generate intelligent responses. Without an API key, BuddyBot cannot utilize the AI models provided by OpenAI, rendering it non-functional for chat-based interactions.
  • Visitor Chat (Optional): The Visitor Chat option allows non-logged-in users to interact with BuddyBot. This feature is optional and can be enabled based on your preferences. However, enabling anonymous chats requires cookie consent to comply with privacy regulations. Cookie consent ensures that visitor data is handled securely and transparently.
  • Visitor Session Expiry Time: This setting determines how long a visitor’s conversation remains active before expiring. It is only applicable when Visitor Chat is enabled. Setting a session expiry time ensures that conversations are automatically cleared after a specified duration, maintaining privacy and reducing server load.
  • Delete Expired Conversations: This option automatically deletes conversations when a visitor’s session cookie expires. Like the Visitor Session Expiry Time, this setting only makes sense when Visitor Chat is enabled. It helps manage storage efficiently by removing expired conversations, ensuring your database remains optimized.

This ensures each bot delivers focused, context-aware responses—improving overall user experience and operational efficiency.
